THREE CONCERTS AND TWO CONFERENCES TO CONCLUDE AML’S CHAMBER MUSIC SEASON
Closing the AML’s chamber music season are: Saturday 1st at 5 pm in the Casermetta S. Colombano, a conference with Claudia Nardini, Gabriella Biagi Ravenni, Herbert Handt and Lorenzo Giovannelli on the relationship and parallels between Lucca and Venice, with reference to Gioseffo Guami and Claudio Monteverdi. Sunday 2nd (at 5 pm in San Micheletto) performance of music by Monteverdi and Guami with soprano Susanna Rigacci (see photo), accompanied by an orchestral ensemble. Saturday 8th (5 pm in the Salone Arcivescovato)) conference by Adorno Braccessi and Don Mauro Lucchesi on religious dissent in sixteenth century Lucca. The following afternoon (5 pm in San Micheletto) concert by Eloquenza, on original instruments, conducted by Jonathan Brandani with music including Monteverdi, Buxtehude and Pachelbel. Sunday 16th (5 pm San Micheletto) dell’Amartrio concert (violin, cello and piano) consisting of three young award-winners: Laura Marzadori, Ludovico Armellini and Leonora Armellini.
PUCCINI AND HIS LUCCA CELEBRATES TEN YEARS
Thursday, March 6th the “Puccini and his Lucca festival” celebrates its tenth anniversary with its president and artistic director, Andrea Colombini. During this period more than 3,600 events have been organized with over 100 singers and 50 symphony concerts. For this occasion, on March 6, at 7.15 pm at the Oratorio di San Giuseppe in Lucca’s Cathedral Museum (see photo), there will be a free Puccini concert called “The World of Puccini” with the festival soloists accompanied on the piano by Diego Fiorini, in Puccini arias and duet, a buffet at the Aria café and restaurant at 8.45 pm with the screening on the Cathedral’s wall of the concert, recorded last December at the Musikverein in Vienna, conducted by Andrea Colombini. CAMELLIA FESTIVAL WITH ORCHESTRA CONDUCTED BY LUCIA PACINI
The “La Rondine laboratory” will participate, with orchestra conducted by Lucia Pacini, in the opening concert of the Camellia Festival on Saturday, March 15th at 11 am at the Centro Culturale Compitese. Musical entertainment will continue throughout the festival with the following programme: Sunday, 16th an ensemble will play popular tunes, Sunday 23rd, a “Camellia in Jazz” concert, on Sunday, 30th an ensemble of harps perform Morricone and Piovani soundtracks All concerts start at 3 pm. The music will be interspersed with readings written in conjunction with the Fuori Porta bookshop.
CONCERTS AT VILLA BERTELLI FORTE DEI MARMI
Concerts organized by the “F. Geminiani” Academy of Music continue at Villa Bertelli in Forte dei Marmi (Vittoria Apuana) at 12 am on Sunday mornings with free admission. Sunday 2nd, the Mel Bonis Trio (Lucia Neri, flute; Renata Sfriso, violin and Alessandra Dezzi, piano) will perform music by Cui, Schumann, Ibert, Chaminade and Mel Bonis. Sunday 9th vocal concert with soprano Rossella Bevilacqua with pianist Nadia Lencioni sings famous arias from operas by Puccini, Mascagni and Verdi. Sunday 16th piano recital with Elena Cucchiara who plays Beethoven, Liszt and Thalberg. 23rd Philip Rogai (flute) and Fabrizio Dates (piano) play music by CPE Bach and Carl Reinecke. Closing the programme in March (Sunday 30th) is a recital by pianist Martin Muench with pieces by Ravel, Debussy and Scriabin.
AWARD FOR A BOOK ON PUCCINI
31st May 2014 is the deadline for entering a competition for students, open to any nationality, who wish to pursue a research topic on Puccini. Their book will be published by Lucca’s Centro studi “Giacomo Puccini”. The research must be completed within two years from July 2014 and the winner is awarded €10,000. SELECTION FOR THE SINGING ACADEMY AT THE TORRE DEL LAGO PUCCINI FESTIVAL
March 2nd is the deadline for applications to the Academy of advanced studies aimed at staging Il Trittico and the selection of singers for Turandot, La Bohème and Madama Butterfly, the four operas in the 2014 Puccini Festival at Torre Del Lago. Entry is regardless of nationality or age, but entrants must have completed a singing diploma at a conservatoire or musical institute. Selection of candidates will take place on 3rd and 4th March 4, at the Auditorium Enrico Caruso (see photo). ORGAN CONCERT IN SAN MARTINO
Sunday 2nd at 5 pm in Lucca’s Cathedral of San Martino there’s an organ concert organized by the “Cantiere Della Musica”. The famous Italian organist Alessandro Bianchi (see photo) will play Litanies by Jehan Alain, a piece by Bach, Scherzo and Finale from Vierne’s Symphony no. 2 and finally the monumental Sonata on the 94th Psalm by Julius Reubke, one of the greatest masterpieces of the romantic organ romance. Admission is free.
MARRIAGE OF FIGARO AL TEATRO CARLO FELICE, GENOA
On Sunday 16th there’s a trip to Genoa, organized by the “Giacomo Puccini” choir of Camigliano, to Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” by Mozart conducted by Johannes Wildner. Direction by Marco Spada. The cast is formed by the Ensemble Opera Studio. The tour is organized in collaboration with the Tam Tour travel agency Tam Tour For reservations and information call 3404937826.
In March, the “Scuola di musica Sinfonia” continues “I Venerdì di Sinfonia” with lecture- concerts open to all. Friday, 14th Catherine Mancini (viola) will present “Once Upon a Time … stories in music.” 21st Massimo Salotti entertains the audience on the piano with ” Shostakovich: monographs.” Finally, on Friday 28th, the Brunini – Atzori guitar duo presents “Musical Portraits “. All concerts are at 8.45 pm and are free entry.
DEBORA CAPRIOGLIO INAUGURATES “BOCCHERINI OPEN” 2014
The 2014 season Boccherini OPEN sponsored by the “L. Boccherini” music institute starts on Tuesday 4th (9 pm) with Mimi and the others – Women in opera for narrator, vocal soloists and orchestra. The performers are the soprano Francesca Pacini, the mezzo-soprano Marta Kwing Chung Leung and Ensemble Orchestra of the Opera conducted by Mario Shipyard Menicagli with the special participation of well-known actress Debora Caprioglio (see photo) as narrator . The entrance ticket (€ 10, reduced € 7) can be purchased on the night of the show in the Institute’s auditorium in piazza Del Suffragio.
From March 7th to 9th, Dance Meeting “Incursioni” with the European Dance Association ; Wednesday 12th at 9 pm, Concert Duo Kaspiana (Diana Seitz , violin ; Maya Tuylieva , piano) ; Monday 24th at 11 am a meeting on the career of the musician in the new millennium with conductor Nicola Luisotti (see photo). In the programme of the ” Boccherini double Bass Festival ” there will be evening concerts on 24th March (Gabriele Ragghianti , double bass , Simone Soldati , piano), 26th ( double bass students of the ” Boccherini ” institute) and 28th with Thierry Barbè , Dan Styffe, Gabriele Ragghianti and Edoardo Barsotti at the piano. Saturday 29th (5 pm ) there will be a ceremony and concert for the memorial plaque dedicated to the Carol Mac Andrew bursary, established by the AML for students of the “Boccherini”. The eighth season of “Musica ragazzi” dedicated to children and to future generations continues. Thursday 13th at 10.30 am in the Auditorium of piazza Del Suffragio students from the singing class of the “L. Boccherini” institute will stage Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro. Thursday 27th (Auditorium of piazza Del Suffragio at 10.30am), a Tribute to Sergio Endrigo (see photo) by Giulio D’ Agnello (vocals and guitar). HENRY PIERANUNZI IN “IMPROMOZART”
The “Mozart Cosi fan tutte “project sponsored by the Associazione Culturale dello Scompiglio di Vorno continues. Saturday 8th (9 pm) Enrico Pieranunzi presents ” ImproMozart”, a project for piano solo in which the musician from Rome performs Scarlatti, Bach and Mozart and re-uses them as a source of inspiration for jazz and other forms. Considered one of the best-known and popular players in the international jazz scene, Enrico Pieranunzi has recorded more than 70 CDs and has collaborated with major artists from the jazz world. “A. CATALANI” FRIENDS OF MUSIC CIRCLE
The “Catalani” Music Circle of Porcari is promoting a series of cultural and musical events. Saturday, March 8th at 3.30 pm there will be a guided tour of the “Imago e Ombra – Bambole – Gioco – Costume e Sogno” exhibition devised by Renata Frediani in the State Archives in Piazza Guidiccioni ( tickets € 5). A choral concert by the “Voxalia” group conducted by Livio Picotti will follow and, at the end of the event, the “Catalani” Circle will offer a reception to for all those at the event. At 8 pm there will be an optional dinner at the “Puccini” restaurant (cost € 30). Monday 17th at 9.15, at the Sala Catalani located within the San Luca Palace Hotel (Via San Paolino), there’s a Verdi Simon Boccanegra listening guide with soprano Silvia Tocchini. Admission is free.
